6B: Bicycle & Pedestrian Paths
Support sustainable funding for, and implementation of, additional dedicated bicycle paths, neighborways, and sidewalks as called for in local and regional transportation plans like Indy Moves. Support also includes awareness and promotional campaigns to improve safety.
Value to the Community
Neighborhood infrastructure like sidewalks promotes livability, healthy living, and safety. Such infrastructure connects regional trails to local destinations and also provides a highly visible presence of bicycles and pedestrians, making biking and walking a key component of our community’s culture. Consumer preferences also continue to embrace walkability as a key neighborhood desire when choosing where to live.Value to the Hospitality Industry
This neighborhood-scale infrastructure provides safe connections from the greenway system to nearby attractions, restaurants, and neighborhoods, increasing the ability for visitors to access these destinations on foot or on bike. They offer the ability to create more "loop" pathways or means to explore more of the city and its neighborhoods.Updates
