9B: Increase Design Quality
Support efforts to increase the design quality of buildings and public spaces which, in turn, distinguishes our community from others. Public policy and investment should encourage design that is site and neighborhood-specific and discourage placeless design that can be found in every community.
Value to the Community
The design of buildings, infrastructure, and spaces create or inhibit long-term value for communities. While design styles and tastes evolve, a deliberate and inclusive design process based on community desires is essential to creating unique places of lasting value that reflect and celebrate its people.Value to the Hospitality Industry
Design contributes significantly to a visitor's impression of a place, helping them cement lasting positive memories of Indy. The aesthetics of design also contributes to a community's brand and makes a community interesting, promoting destination appeal.Updates
- May 2021. Infill Housing Guidelines update adopted.. An update to the City's Infill Housing Guidelines, which encourage well-designed and compatible new construction in traditional neighborhoods, was adopted by the Metropolitan Development Commission.
