2A: Develop a Festival Strategy
Develop a strategy for festivals that allow residents and visitors to have a different experience every week of the year. This strategy should develop a calendar of existing festivals, identify calendar gaps or overlap, and be integrated with Visit Indy’s convention calendars to understand hospitality capacity. The strategy should consider opportunities where it would be mutually beneficial to move an existing festival in the calendar to maximize attendance and community benefit while also exploring opportunities to develop new festivals during calendar gaps and to reinforce other cultural or economic development initiatives. Consideration for diversity in geographic location, audience, and price point should be given. This strategy should explore best practices for how festivals can be supported through partnerships, extend the length of stay for visitors, create discounted access to related attractions, and finally, navigate ways to mitigate disruption to resident daily life (such as noise or street closures).
Value to the Community
Festivals are a key way we celebrate the diversity of people and places that make Indy a great place to live: it's how we show off! In fact, many festivals are organic in origin and come from a unique local asset, opportunity, or interest. They also offer residents opportunities to enjoy new and different experiences without having to leave the city, offering a sense of vibrancy and increasing quality of life.Value to the Hospitality Industry
Festivals can attract visitors on their own or they can extend a visitor’s length of stay in the city. Because of their temporary nature, festivals are one way to reinvent the same place (our community) over and over, increasing the number and types of visitors coming to Indy. Using festivals as calendar gap-fillers also helps create consistency in visitorship to the city.Updates
