3F: Support Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Expression

Encourage development and adoption of augmented (think “Pokemon Go”) and virtual reality platforms that increase the depth of experiences of Indy’s places. For example, such a platform could tell us the story of individual sculptures on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument when a smartphone’s camera is aimed at them. Platforms can also be used to curate, or even to democratize through open contribution, creative expression like music, art, or storytelling in real-world places, yet only visible through an app. Such platforms can deepen our understanding of real-world places we already have with minimal investment.

Value to the Community

AR/VR permits more places to be activated with art, music, and stories without any physical investment and can be used to generate interest in places or even pilot ideas in them virtually before future investments are made. They also allow for more interpretations of existing places without physically altering them.

Value to the Hospitality Industry

AR/VR provides an opportunity for visitors to more deeply engage, experience, and connect with Indy's places, increasing visitor satisfaction and destination appeal. It can also increase appeal for younger, more tech-savvy travelers.
