9C: Iconic Design for Signature Investments
It is not often we make significant public or private investments in signature developments, and when we do, they should not simply be high quality: they must be iconic. These investments will define our skyline and become our postcards, defining the image of Indy in both photos and memories. Their legacy is worthy of significant connection to our unique story and sustained engagement with community stakeholders.
Value to the Community
Design can inspire a community, leaving legacies that memorialize the presence and values of people, or it can do neither, creating generic, utilitarian places. Encouraging signature investments to be iconic design provides Indy with a chance to distinguish itself and its people from other places, while promoting resident pride.Value to the Hospitality Industry
Design contributes significantly to a visitor's impression of a place, helping them cement lasting, positive memories of Indy. Iconic designs will become our postcards, becoming those that define an outsider's view of our city and those that are shared widely by residents and visitors alike, both of which build destination appeal. Furthermore, significant designs, or collections of designs, can induce visitation, as shown by Columbus, Indiana.Updates
