6C: Downtown Outdoor Space Connection Enhancements
Develop and fund a plan to physically connect, with expanded or enhanced pedestrian infrastructure, the large outdoor public spaces downtown that are frequently used for events. By better connecting these spaces, we can accommodate larger and more spread-out outdoor events, similar to how Georgia Street connects the Indiana Convention Center and Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Value to the Community
While motivated by event demand, the expanded and enhanced pedestrian infrastructure is available year-round for the use of people using downtown for more daily purposes. Much like Georgia Street and the Cultural Trail have attracted more outdoor spaces like sidewalk cafes, this expanded infrastructure can also improve the livability and sociability of these sidewalks.Value to the Hospitality Industry
Just as the skywalk system allows Indy to host larger events by integrating the event space capacity of connected hotels into the overall Convention Center capacity, connecting our outdoor venues together will allow us to accommodate larger, or more spread out, outdoor events.Updates
