8E: Daylight Pogues Run
Concurrent with planning efforts for the downtown Convention District, explore the feasibility of “daylighting,” or uncovering, Pogues Run between Lucas Oil Stadium and White River. A naturalized Pogues Run can provide the placemaking anchor for the district like the Downtown Canal does for downtown’s west side. It also provides a direct natural link between the Indiana Convention Center and the White River and offers the opportunity to infuse the district with an environmental ethic and recreational resource.
Value to the Community
Just as the Downtown Canalwalk transformed a vacant and underutilized area into a vibrant destination, Pogues Run can serve as the placemaking anchor for redevelopment of downtown's southwest quadrant. This recreational amenity can use public space to pull the White River into a newly developed mixed-use neighborhood that reclaims unproductive land and returns it to productive, community-serving uses.Value to the Hospitality Industry
Daylighting Pogues Run offers the promise of transforming an expanded Convention District with an attractive and restored stream that provides a unique placemaking experience for residents and visitors alike.Updates
