6D: Climate Controlled Skywalk Connections
Extend the downtown climate controlled skywalk system to connect Banker’s Life Fieldhouse, enabling climate controlled connection between all three of downtown’s primary event venues. As Circle Centre Mall evolves, it is critically important to maintain its functionality as a hub of this system.
Value to the Community
The skywalk system allows Indy to remain competitive for conventions in the colder months and therefore helps sustain more hospitality jobs year-round. The system also allows for more effective parking management downtown, connecting parking garages that are further from venues and minimizing the need to construct additional dedicated garages that detract from downtown's walkability.Value to the Hospitality Industry
As the convention center with the most connected hotel rooms, Indy’s skywalk system is critical to maintaining a competitive advantage. The system is critical to extending the convention “season” longer into the colder months which helps us maximize return on investment of the convention facilities and extends seasonal jobs.Updates
- August 2024. Skywalk across Capitol Avenue. With the convention center expansion near the Signia Hilton Hotel, a skywalk is also included over Capitol Avenue that will connect the expansion to the existing convention center.
- April 2022. Skywalk proposed over Pennsylvania Street. As part of a $250m mixed-use development proposal at the corner of Pennsylvania and Georgia Streets, a new skywalk is proposed to connect into Gainbridge Fieldhouse. If built, this would leave the only missing connection Meridian Street.
