1C: Cultural Tourism Accelerator Program
Across Indy there are residents or groups that know the stories, history, oddities, and passions that make places unique. These residents may speak to groups on a historical subject, lead a walking tour of notable homes, host workshops on aquatic life in creeks, tell ghost stories, or lead a fishing expedition on White River, to name a few examples. An Accelerator program can provide assistance connecting such residents to platforms (such as AirBnB Experiences and TripAdvisor Viator) that help them market and monetize their offerings. It can also provide them with training, materials, and resources to strengthen their offerings and host skills, and allow Visit Indy to connect them with groups seeking local programming.
Value to the Community
Visitation supports the livelihood of many residents directly through part-time and full-time jobs. Another underdeveloped way for residents to financially benefit from tourism is by offering personal experiences for a cost. Such experiences allow us to more completely showcase the Indy story, while being more inclusive of all the people, places and stories that make Indy special.Value to the Hospitality Industry
The quality and quantity of authentic, local experiences available in Indy will increase destination appeal without having to invest in expensive and concentrated capital projects. This gives people more reasons to visit, more to do while visiting, and allows for more personal connections between visitors and residents, which often form lasting memories.Updates
